In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B. Edwin Gilbert Michaelian (1906-1983) held office as Westchester County Executive from 1958 to 1973. He was born in New York City and graduated from Yale University (1929). After graduation he entered business as a rug importer. In 1939 he was elected a Councilman for the city of White Plains. He served until 1943 when he resigned to become a Naval Officer (1943-1945).
